Believe it or not, some of the tastiest food in the city can be bought from the back of a truck. Many of Victoria’s community events feature a selection of food trucks offering a number of different kinds of fare, and although they make no claims about serving haute cuisine, few things accent a day spent milling about one of the city’s festivals as a food truck burger, hot dog, or burrito.
A food truck is a mobile kitchen that the proprietors park in a populated area and prepare a small menu, usually specializing in a certain type of cuisine. Depending on the truck, that cuisine could be anything from delightfully deep-fried comfort food to fresh and healthy sandwiches.
Don’t dismiss a meal just because it’s handed to you from the box of a truck; without having to focus on delivering a satisfactory full dining experience, many food truck owners focus on improving the quality of the food instead.
Food trucks used to have a fairly greasy reputation, and the assumption was often that your digestive system would later pay the price for eating from one. Now, however, a food truck is recognized as being an entirely appropriate setting for an aspiring chef to hone their skills, and as such, there is a class of gourmet food trucks that have carved out their own niche in serving quality food from a vehicle window.
