Victoria Lavender Farm

With 10,000 lavender bushes, a bird sanctuary/rescue centre, and beautiful gardens designed with leisurely strolling in mind, Victoria Lavender Farm is a must see when in North Saanich on southern Vancouver Island. The months of July and August offer a breathtaking view of the main field in full bloom with a number of other varieties in bloom throughout the summer.

While the lush gardens and lavender fields swaying in breeze are amazing to see in and of themselves, the farm also breeds rare birds as well as acting as a rescue sanctuary for peacocks, chickens, and ducks. Max and Cosmo (2 border collies) and Zak (A Great Pyrenees) work diligently to keep the birds and resident sheep under control.

Visitors can enjoy self-guided tours and consulting throughout the summer months and admission to the farm is free. While children are most welcome to explore the farm with adults, pets must be kept in their vehicles at all times due to the livestock and birds that call Victoria Lavender Farm home. The farm does provide wheelchair access and if you like group tours can be arranged as long as they are requested ahead of time. Wedding parties are also often seen traveling to the farm for one-of-a-king photos. The staff is happy to accommodate such photo sessions with advance notice. You can call them at 250.857.2526 and they will be happy to arrange a tour through the farm or photo session.

A wide variety of lavender products which are produced right on the farm are available for purchase at their store as well as online. Some of the amazing personal care lavender products include:

  • Luxury Skin Cream
  • Salt Scrubs
  • Body Lotion
  • Bath Oil
  • Handmade Soap
  • Shampoo & Conditioner
  • Pet Shampoo, & more

While most of us are aware of the benefits of lavender on the skin and hair, some may not be aware of the many culinary uses for lavender. The farm store offers a variety of edible products such as:

  • Preserves & Jellies
  • Cake & Brownie Mixes
  • Mustard
  • Sugar, & more

The benefits and uses of lavender certainly don’t stop there. The farm store also carries products such as Aromatherapy Candles, Sachets, and Laundry Tumblers.

It is obvious that the Farm owner’s love of animals extends to poultry as well. They raise Black Copper Marans from France which are a rare breed of feather-legged poultry. When there are extras of these amazing dark brown Maran eggs, they may be purchased at their store. Heritage roosters that have been nurtured through their rescue program can also often be found for sale. They do ensure that the roosters will be going to good homes and can be purchased in exchange for a bag of feed! Also for sale are Peacock chicks that are 3 to 4 months old, which is when they can distinguish the males from the females.

Recipes that range from appetizers to entrées and desserts are yet another fabulous use of lavender plants. It is certainly worth checking out specific food recipes and well as some great cooking tips posted directly on their website.
