Not all real estate agents are realtors. In Victoria, as in any city nationwide, realtors® are real estate professionals who are members of the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA). When a real estate agent wishes to become a realtor®, legally they have to agree to conduct themselves according to the CREA’s code of ethics. This code of ethics covers all aspects of their job, from truth in advertising to customer service and professional networking.
Groups of realtors® or real estate agents often band together to efficiently share listings; this kind of group is called a Multiple Listing Service (MLS). Quite often, these MLS groups require their members to have an affiliation with local, provincial and national realtor® associations.

To become a real estate professional, you can start by taking on a regular job in a real estate brokerage. Next, you may choose to get certified at a local college or university offering relevant programming. There is also often a period of supervised field training before you can become a real estate professional. After receiving all your training and education, you then get licensed through your province, and become a realtor® by attaining membership in your local board and the CREA.

It takes a long process to launch yourself into your intended career, and real estate is certainly no different. Realtors® in Victoria, as in any part of the world, not only have to attain a certain level of education, but they also have to maintain memberships across several associations, and take steps to ensure that their knowledge remains current, and that they stay on top of the trends.
