Lochside Park

Lochside Park in Saanich is a large well maintained park on southern Vancouver Island. It is equipped with a great playground, picnic areas, and dedicated fields for several organized sporting activities. The soccer field within the park, Frank’s Field, is named after Frank Leversidge who was a long-time supporter of youth soccer in the area. This artificial turf field is also equipped with lights making it possible for teams to play later in the day as the summer turns to fall. Other team sports regularly played here include:

  • Softball
  • Tennis

The well-placed picnic tables make it easy to spend the day watching tournaments or simply enjoying the park with family, friends, or an office get-together. Although dogs are allowed in the park, they must be kept on a leash and are not permitted in the fenced baseball field from March 1 to October 31.

Lochside Park also has other popular attractions nearby that are certainly worth a visit such as:

  • Mattick’s Farm – A great shopping experience where one can purchase one-of-a-kind gifts, local foods, fresh produce and even take in some great art and entertainment. It is a kind of hub where locals and visitors alike gather to enjoy the friendly atmosphere unique to the area.
  • Cordova Bay Golf Course – Spectacular views, impeccable grounds, and golfing that is easy enough for beginners and holes that will nicely challenge veteran golfers. This golf course has 18 holes, a golf shop, restaurant, and as been named Facility of the Year by the PGA of British Columbia.

For those who are looking for a more adventurous walk or hike, the Lochside Regional Trail can also be accessed from Lochside Park. This trail is perfect for taking a leisurely stroll as well as cycling and even horseback riding through the rural sections of the trail. It is also popular for Day Cycling Trips one of is 12km or another 29km long (one way).

There are so many ways one can enjoy Lochside Park such as a game of tennis, watching or playing organized sports, or just relaxing over a picnic lunch under the warm summer sun. It is and ideal spot for anyone with young children and you can be sure they will have hours of fun at the playground. A few of the many things that children love to play on include:

  • A digger toy – An apparatus that even young children can operate which actually picks up and dumps sand.
  • Lots of swings including 2 child and 2 baby swings
  • Running frame
  • Climbing apparatus
  • Slide, and more.

If you are anywhere near Cordova Bay Road in Saanich, Lochside Park really is a must and the perfect spot to plan on spending the day at. The whole family will enjoy playing games, having a picnic and just plain having fun.
