The Horticulture Centre of the Pacific is both a public garden and a College of Horticulture. Just twelve kilometers from downtown Victoria on southern Vancouver Island, the centre is home to the largest outdoor Bonsai Garden in Canada. It also has a hands-on garden designed for children to explore.
It really is the perfect place to leave the often hectic pace of today’s lifestyle and enjoy the beauty of the gardens and the tranquility that it offers. A guided tour is a great way to experience the gardens and gain some interesting facts about how it all works. The tours are led by Master Gardeners who are eager to share their knowledge. Some of the things your tour guide will share are:
- Show visitors fascinating native and non-native plants
- Direct visitors to the plants that are in bloom at the time
- Let guests know which plants are less susceptible to deer
- Talk about and discuss topics such as Zen Gardens, Rock Wall Building, Bonsai Gardens, and more
If you and your group would like a guided tour simply fill out the guided tour request at the bottom of the page.
Once the tour is completed make sure you leave time to visit the gift shop then stop for a bite to eat at the Charlotte and the Quail. Of course once you’ve relaxed a bit, you are encouraged to meander through the gardens at your leisure.
If you enjoyed seeing and learning about the plants and trees at the Centre, you will be amazed at the kinds of things you can learn from a visit to the Library In The Cottage. Whether you are a novice or an expert in the area of plants and trees, the library is a great place to lose yourself in. You can learn which trees have been around since the dinosaurs or that the Centre’s rhododendrons originated in the Himalaya Mountains! For more information about the library and its hours, give them a call at: 250.479.6273.
One of the great times to explore the gardens is during their annual Arts & Music festival. It has quickly become one of the most popular festivals in and around Victoria. There are three separate stages where you can enjoy as many as fifty different artists while taking in the beauty of nine acres of the Centre’s demonstration gardens. Visit their site for a list of their Arts & Music Calendar.
The Horticulture Centre really is an ideal place to hold weddings, special social gatherings, and the perfect spot to rejuvenate your next corporate meeting. With a backdrop of 30 vibrant demonstration gardens, your next event is sure to be an unrivalled success. As amenities, the Centre can provide such items as:
