Olympic View Golf Course

The Victoria area is lucky enough to have Canada’s mildest winters, often having no snow at all.  For avid golfers, this means year-round opportunities to indulge in their favourite game, in what is probably one of Canada’s prettiest cities. Olympic View Golf Club ranks among the top 50 golf courses in Canada, and it is easy to see why. Although playing your favourite game is always an enjoyable past-time, setting that game in a beautiful location makes it all the better.  From many points along the fairway, visitors can see Washington State’s Olympic Mountains, which the golf course is named after, just across the Strait of Juan de Fuca. On a clear day, the pristine snow atop the mountains is plainly visible, outlining and contrasting the shape of the rocks and crevices, adding the majesty of these mountains to the already fantastic course environment.

Olympic View Golf Club is surrounded by the kind of lush forest that would make any hiker green with envy. There are twelve lakes throughout the course, offering a more challenging water element to the game. You can also see two gorgeous flowing waterfalls, and an abundance of native wildlife, such as deer, bald eagles, turkey vultures and many other birds, adding to the overall atmosphere of peace and tranquility. Although the entire golf course is set in the sort of beautiful landscape that Victorians get to enjoy, the 17th hole is by far the most stunning hole on the course, with a breath-taking 40 foot waterfall only 455 yards away from the green. When holes like this one wind their way through narrow valleys and picturesque Japanese gardens, it’s no wonder that Tiger Woods chose this course as the first course he played in B.C, in 1994, as an amateur.

At the end of your game, you can make your way over to Forester’s Restaurant for a meal. At the bar, you’ll be able to have excellent pub fare, while in the proper dining area you can enjoy more upscale fare, all of which is made from locally sourced ingredients. The food prices are reasonable, at between $13 and $30 for decent sized portions, and the quality of the food is top-notch. Forester’s atmosphere is nice and relaxed, offering spectacular views while you enjoy your meal. In the warmer months, you can enjoy your meal or some drinks with friends on Forester’s patio, where you can also take in the incredible views that surround Olympic View Golf Club, and watch the other golfers play their rounds. Whether you come to Olympic View Golf Club to play a round with friends, learn how to golf, or just enjoy a meal, a visit to Olympic View is a few hours well spent.
